Bakit sa Southern Baptist Tayo Connected?

1. Southern Baptist can be traced back in church history as one of the churches who originated from the age of Reformation.  

Ang church na itinatag ni Lord ay nagpatuloy from one generation to another. Mate-trace natin ito sa church history at matututunan sa pag-aaral nito ang providence ng Dios para ma-preserve ang pure doctrine sa kabila ng threat ng false teachers na palaging present in time. Maraming dapat sabihin dito, pero suffice it to say na ang Age of Reformation ay naging turning point sa life ng church ni Lord para ma-uphold ang truth at isa ang Southern Baptist churches sa mainline denominations na resulta ng reform na ito. 2. Southern Baptist preserves and proclaims the truth which Christian apologists and theologians in the past defended and faithfully proclaimed. 

Sa pag-iingat ng Dios ng pure doctrine across history ay gumamit Siya ng mga Spirit-gifted apologists, theologians, and preachers para ipagtanggol, depensahan, at i-proclaim ito faithfully. Sa time ng Reformation ay pwedeng i-summarize ang ipinagtanggol ng reformers into "5 Solas"--Salvation is by God's grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone, and the Scripture alone as the highest authority. Ang ilang independent churches na unaware sa mga bagay na ito at unwilling to connect to the mainline denominations (e.g. Southern Baptist) for check and balance ng kanilang doctrines ay nagkaroon ng beliefs and practices na unbiblical at, dahil hindi biblical, ito ay harmful para sa mga tagapakinig.

3. Southern Baptist acknowledges the "autonomy" of the local church.

Sa statement of faith ng Southern Baptist ay ito ang naka-stipulate: “Ang New Testament church ng Panginoong Jesu-Kristo ay isang autonomous local congregation ng baptized believers... Bawat congregation ay nag-ooperate sa ilalim ng Lordship ni Christ sa pamamagitan ng democratic [Spirit-guided] processes. Sa tulad ng ganitong congregation ang bawa’t member ay responsible at accountable kay Christ bilang Lord.  Ang emphasis ng ‘autonomy’ dito ay ang separation of church and state. Ang principle na ito, kung tama ang pagkakaunawa, ay hindi nagbibigay ng justification para sa church teaching or practice na unorthodox and destructive.”  

Una, dapat linawin na ang “democratic” dito ay hindi opposed sa "theocratic" rule ng Dios. Nire-recognize ng regenerate members at ina-uphold ang will ng Dios sa lahat-lahat.

Secondly, ang "autonomy" ng local church ay tungkol sa kakayanan nito to govern itself responsibly sa ilalim ng Lordship ni Christ. Though may associations and conventions na bumubuo sa entire Southern Baptist churches, ay wala itong authority sa local church. (See section XIV of Baptist Faith and Message.)

Thirdly, ang "autonomy" ng local church ay hindi nagbibigay ng justification para sa church teaching na hindi in line sa naituro ng church ni Lord throughout history.
